COMPANIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT – SINCE 1992

JAN FOWLER

PROFILE

My Professional Background

I began my career as a teacher in mainstream education before moving into leadership roles alongside raising a family and travelling abroad. My training and work expanded into biographical counselling and adult education, followed later by training with Mira in organisational development, leadership and management. Becoming a member of the Mira group was the beginning of over two decades of consulting across education, corporate organisations and a range of Not for Profit organisations focussing on growth, collaboration, personal and professional development and purposeful change. In the last 15 years I have also maintained significant engagement in the field of addiction and rehabilitation. This diverse background, and the work with my collegial team at Mira, enables me to bring both depth and breadth to my facilitation and consultancy practice.

Challenges I find attractive

I am drawn to working with individuals and organisations seeking to rebuild purpose and integrity into their lives and work. I see great value in the challenge of those moments where, if held with respect and openness, creativity and inspiration can emerge. These moments invite me to trust the wisdom within the individual or team, while holding a clear and sound process and facilitating good questioning to support whatever needs to unfold. I am also committed to working with those who seek to rebuild their lives and find purpose and a contribution to the whole.

I never forget

I am there to serve the client, to listen deeply, hold the space with respect and to remind myself that at the core of Mira is the depth of world wisdom, unique tools and the knowledge that we are all on a path of development. I never forget to remind myself of the wisdom of the individual, how grateful I am for the Mira tools, that time is a key player in all change and to appreciate the knowledge and foundation of Mira, my colleagues and the ongoing learning journey. Finally, I never forget how privileged I am to be part of the process of learning with others.

My Clients

My core work has been in the Not for Profit sector and Education although I have also worked in the corporate world. My work has included conflict resolution, team building and development, the dynamics and implementation of change – organisational, professional and personal, Biography workshops, individual counselling, coaching and training/facilitation.

How do I learn?

Alongside a love of reading and study, I learn from life itself – knowing that each day and each experience ,with its challenges and insights, provides me with the opportunity grow and learn. Encounters with others are my greatest teachers and I am particularly interested in group dynamics, sharing of wisdom and creating dialogue, facing the “not knowing” and allowing the process to reveal itself (when well facilitated) and learning from “mistakes”.

My Networks

I am a member of the Association for Social Development, the Australasian Facilitators Network and a Board Member of Taruna College, New Zealand. I also am informed by WANADA , the Western Australia Alcohol and other Drugs Agencies Network.
